A striking infrared image of Mars' southern hemisphere, captured by the Mars Odyssey spacecraft's THEMIS instrument. False-color representation shows temperatures ranging from 0°C (red) to -120°C (purple). The image highlights the shrinking south polar ice cap (frozen CO2) and the temperature drop into the Martian night. A thin blue crescent at the top represents the Martian atmosphere. The image is a test of the THEMIS camera system, taken from 22,000 km altitude.

NASA Mars Orbiter Captures Volcano Peeking Above Morning Cloud Tops The 2001 Odyssey spacecraft captured a first-of-its-kind look at Arsia Mons, which dwarfs Earth’s tallest volcanoes. A new panorama from NASA’s 2001 Mars Odyssey orbiter shows one of the Red Planet’s biggest volcanoes, Arsia Mons, poking through a canopy of clouds just before dawn. Arsia Mons and two other volcanoes form what is known as […] The post NASA Mars Orbiter Captures Volcano Peeking Above Morning Cloud Tops first appeared on VibeWire Magazine.

What if this rock formation is some sort of skeleton & the blue tubes are muscles/ veins? 👀 You should see what my brain does with clouds!

Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) image from the Mars Odyssey spacecraft reveals a unique Martian landscape. Light-colored, finger-like formations, initially thought to be salt deposits, are now identified as eroded volcanic ash, contrasting sharply with the dark surrounding sand within a 10km area of a larger crater. The image showcases the fascinating geological processes shaping the Martian surface.

The infamous axe scene from "The Shining," but replaced with personifications of the 2001 Mars Odyssey spacecraft. Imagine someone chopping a wooden door open with a solar panel.
