According to the dealer’s website, “Although the sitter’s identity is unknown at present, he was evidently part of Beale’s close circle of ecclesiastical patrons. The boy is shown dressed in classical robes and seated in a verdant landscape, gesturing to a steepled church in the distant landscape; the subject is ostensibly secular, albeit one with Christian undertones. During a time heavily influenced by religious beliefs, subtle allusions to faith were frequently incorporated into portraiture. In this instance, the young boy is shown with a lamb and crook, attributes of St John the Baptist, who lived an austere life in the wilderness.” Also, a white dog with brown ears sits on the ground, next to the boy’s left knee.

The painting is likely to depict Bartholomew Beale (1656–1709), the elder son of Mary Beale (1633–99), one of the first professional women artists in England and a friend of Lely.

A just about half-length portrait of a young woman in an oval frame, facing toward the viewer's left, with her head turned slightly toward her left to gaze just beyond the viewer (her eyes are turned all the way left). She wears a low cut gold dress with white trim, and a pearl necklace and dangle (possibly also pearl) earrings. At breast level, her name is spelled out in gold paint.

A half-length portraits in a painted oval frame of a middle-aged woman, likely a widow, dressed predominantly in black. The fine white lace that trims the scalloped edges of her black hood indicate her relatively high social standing.
