Returning to the Land Rover, I opened the back and grabbed the mattress cover I kept rolled up and ready to go. I'd learned years ago the handy-dandy protective covers were much easier to carry around than heavy wool blankets, and were much more manageable than tarps. Plus, a twin-size mattress cover was just the right size to carry a man draped over my shoulder. They were made to keep a bed pristine, protected from all kinds of things, and they worked like a charm to keep blood off clothes.
