Bölgenin 19'uncu yüzyıldaki 'altına hücum' dönemiyle ünlü olduğu da hesaba katıldığında Hole'ün bu tahmini oldukça makul görünüyordu. NE KESİLEBİLDİ NE KIRILABİLDİ Hole, taşın altın olup olmadığını görmek için onu kesmeye ve kırmaya çalıştı. Taş testereye müthiş bir direnç gösterdi; matkap işlemedi, asit etkilemedi, balyoz bile kıramadı. Bu noktada taşın "sıradan bir kaya" olmadığı kesinleşti. 3 YIL SONRA GERÇEK ORTAYA ÇIKTI David Hole, üç yıl sonra taşı sırt çantasına koyup Melbourne Müzesi'ne götürdü. Burada jeologlar Dermot Henry ve Bill Birch, taşı görünce hemen şüphelendi. ALTINDAN ÇOK DAHA DEĞERLİ Henry, taşın yüzeyindeki erime izlerinin meteorların atmosfere giriş sırasında oluşan tipik izler olduğunu söyledi. Bu meteor, Victoria eyaletinde bulunan 17'nci meteor olma özelliği taşıdı. 4.6 milyar yıllık uzaydan gelen bu meteoritin aynı zamanda altından çok daha değerli olduğu ortaya çıktı. "DOĞUMDAN BİR PARÇA" Jeologlar meteorun, Güneş Sistemi'nin doğumunun ilk döneminden kalan bir parça olduğunu açıkladı. İçinde kadim demir-nikel bileşenleri, kristalleşmiş mineral damlacıkları ve hatta bazı meteor türlerinde canlılığın yapı taşları olan aminoasitler bile bulunabiliyor. Bu meteorun da Güneş Sistemi'nin oluşumuyla ilgili önemli bilgiler taşıdığı belirtiliyor. TAŞIN AĞIRLIĞI BİLE FARKLIYDI İnceleme yapan ekipte yer alan Dr. Birch, meteorun içeriğindeki yoğun metaller nedeniyle olağanüstü ağır olduğunu belirtti. "Eğer dünyada normal bir taşı elinize alsanız bu kadar ağır olmaması gerekir. Arada ciddi bir ağırlık farkı mevcut." diye konuştu. Taş, yapılan analizlerde H-tipi sıradan kondrit olarak sınıflandırıldı; bu tür meteorların kaynağının Asteroit Kuşağı'ndaki Hebe adlı gök cismi olduğuna inanılıyor.
