Year 3 got outside to practice adding and subtracting hundreds today. We were bored of using regular place value counters so went out into the playground to collect sticks and stones to use in our place value tables instead! โ˜€๏ธ

This week, year 4 took their maths outdoors and played the โ€˜thousands gameโ€™. We recalled our knowledge of counting in thousands, practised additions, subtractions, more than and less than questions. Year 3 got their hands sticky in maths today! Weโ€™ve been learning to recognise and describe 3D shapes, using words like faces, edges, vertices and curved surfaces. Today, we applied our learning by making 3D shapes out of spaghetti (for the edges) and marshmallows (for the vertices). #MathsatWelbeck

Year 3 have been learning about angles, including the difference between acute, obtuse and right angles. We worked in groups to find lots of different angles in the playground and sort them correctly. We used right angle checkers to check we were correct. ๐Ÿ“

Year 3 got active in maths today to practice using appropriate units of time. We sorted lots of activities based on whether they take seconds, minutes or hours. We then checked our answers by timing ourselves doing star jumps press-ups, balancing on 1 leg and even doing cartwheels!

Today, Year 4/3 have been collecting real life data. We stepped outside our school grounds, observed the vehicles that went by and made a tally chart to show the frequency of each vehicle. We will use this data to make our own bar charts later this week. #MathsatWelbeck
