Whether it's the first or the third time reading a book in this series, I'm always happy to visit with the Women's Murder Club. This time, there's a college kid who's disappeared and a working girl who's charged with his death. That brings some interesting times, especially for ADA Yuki Castellano. I have to say, for as strong as she presents herself in court, I like seeing the softer, vulnerable side of her, too. I look forward to her having someone other than the girls in her court. In the meantime, I love that she doesn't stand down from what life throws at her. -- Book quote 'And that’s when Yuki realized that it wasn’t just the pressure of the trial and the scorching focus of the media that was freaking her out; it was Junie Moon, sitting now beside her attorney, looking so fawnlike and vulnerable in her cream-colored suit and lace collar that she was almost transparent.' -- Yuki Castellano We also have Hawk and Pidge robbing wealthy couples and eliminating the victims through arson. As Sergeant Lindsay Boxer and Rich Conklin investigate the crimes and Dr. Claire Washburn does her part as medical examiner, I like that it isn't straightforward with several potential suspects, including one of their own. Rounding the Club out is Cindy Thomas. As usual, she gets some things right and misses the target on others. She isn't as much in the spotlight for this book. No matter that, she continues to be an important part of the team. I love all the twists, turns, and misdirection. Even though I suspected something along those lines, that final twist was terrific.
