Realising that today is the last day of my #MayMotivations I need a new adjective for tomorrow, to go with June - a J or G word with the right sound. Something to inspire me in my thinking. Would appreciate suggestions. Here’s what I’ve done so far this year:
Today, when scheduling a meeting for next week (not that I’ve been working working today…), I cancelled student appointment availability. I nearly created new slots at another time, but remembered I need time to read & reply to emails, & do project work, so said no to myself! #MayMotivations #Day31
I’m rather late for my #MayMotivations #Day30 (& have a supermarket delivery coming in s7 hours, so can’t lie-in in in the morning). This afternoon I felt so tired (probably linked to the whole not going to bed till after midnight) I had to stop & rest for an hr my. Must remember to stop sometimes
Inspired by yesterday’s BBC Election Newscast, I’m playing Hansard Pointless with my children (they sat through an explanation of the podcast, & what Hansard is, before being hooked by Pointless!). Great fun coming up with potentially rare words. Still need to look them up #MayMotivations #Day29
Today I have been able to make so much research progress, due to being looked after, re meals and entertainment. Have to keep remembering that a major reason my progress is slow, in so many things, is due to having multiple hats (several of which have been only half on today) #MayMotivations #Day28
I started a new book this evening, having not been hugely into any of the books I’m reading for several days (I mostly want to write & research whenever I have time). I’m not sure whether I’m going to be into this book I’m reading, but I’m glad I’m giving something new a go #MayMotivations #Day27
Today (if it is still today when I finish writing!) I cleaned quite a bit & made major progress on my jigsaw puzzle while we watched tv. These are things that make me feel accomplished. I didn’t have time for any work related things (probably sensible considering it’s Sunday!) #MayMotivations #Day26
It was so late & I was so tired by the time I sat down last night after everyone was in bed & I’d cleaned up, hence being late now with my #MayMotivations #Day25: the joy of a busy day out & flopping with tv, jigsaw puzzle, wine & food (which I cooked - so not all flopping… though it was spaghetti!)
Today I haven’t switched on my laptop at all. I was sitting here now planning to get on with things and haven’t as I’m took tired. I really hope to make progress with various research things tomorrow #MayMotivations #Day24
I finished reading a CILIP Information Professional today (not the most recent, but not too too old-I’ve been carrying several around…) & put it in the recycling & my daughter was shocked-she’s not used to me throwing things away.! But I must have confidence in access online #MayMotivations #Day23
You know the daily posts that I do every evening? (…or maybe you don’t - I post quite late in the day, and only repost occasionally!). I have written a new blog post about this practice, with links to my monthly hashtags, from #daysofhappiness to #MayMotivations, & to be updated in subsequent months
Today I taught topics I’ve taught many times before, but for the 1st time in a while (searching for a short review & company analysis). Realised I’ve come up with new ways of explaining things since last time. Not prepared words, but knowledge/ideas that’ve been brewing in me #MayMotivations #Day22
Tonight my children, after asking -not for the first time-when I’m going to make bread again, have washed the bread pan, put together the ingredients and put the bread maker on a timer for the morning, all without input from me (or barely any). I could get used to this! #MayMotivations #Day21
Today (Monday) I was on campus for work, and went for a little walk after eating my lunch (a desirable activity due to a good audiobook and lots of sunshine). I had a nice time, and had to force myself back to my desk. I hope to do similar tomorrow when working at home #MayMotivations #Day20
Tonight I have come back from a meal with a friend and for once am not feeling ‘oh, we didn’t talk about x’ and ‘we didn’t get around to discussing y’. #MayMotivations #Day19 for continuing to have so much going on to talk about.
Today I have a working dishwasher again, after two weeks without. I also have a working microwave (I think - I’ve got it out of the box, but haven’t tried it yet). I endeavour to look after these, keep them clean / topped up with salt, to avoid being without them again #MayMotivations #Day18
Today I spent quite a while on teaching prep, for various sessions that are in a few weeks time. I so enjoyed creating new content, and the building blocks of things I will create more explanations, discussions and activities around. Lots more to do still #MayMotivations #Day16
Today I finally sat by myself for an hour (as scheduled) & did a 1st monthly reflection-asking questions of myself, that I’ll look back on, reflect on again & add to in a month’s time. I have been encouraged to do this for ages & finally got round to it. So useful. #IamAurora #MayMotivations #Day15
Today I didn’t go to something I’d put in my diary and wanted to attend (though hadn’t committed to). I realised and accepted that I have too much to do, and that my time would be better spent having some lunch and making some (only some) inroads in my email and to do list #MayMotivations #Day14
Today I had two meetings (missed a third due to things) in which I talked about work related initiatives and aspirations for the near and not so near future. So my #MayMotivations #Day13 is the hope that I will make progress on some of these things...
Today #Day12 of #MayMotivations has been spent with family staying (including making a quadruple batch of pancakes) and pottering, recovering from having guests. I need to be kind to myself this week, remembering that, while I’ve had a great weekend, it has been very busy with little time for rest.
I didn’t do my #MayMotivations post yesterday #Day11 as I was busy with our Eurovision party till gone midnight. It was lovely to have people over, and to cook several dishes that worked well. Need to remember that I can cook nice interesting food and enjoy doing it.
One of the reasons for arranging to have people over (& to stay is to force yourself to clean & tidy a bit (obviously the main reason is your guests’ company). Today I have done a lot of cleaning & tidying in prep for tomorrow. #MayMotivations #Day10 Feeling accomplished, but have so much more to do
Today I’ve fixed 2 broken light switches, which’ve been faulty for months (in one case) & probably years (in the other). I’ve been putting it off but actually got it done in a couple of hours. Maybe I should do more of the many ignored to do list items like this… #MayMotivations #Day9 …or maybe not
Today I took a student thru time series data via Bloomberg Excel add-in for the 1st time in ages & discovered major changes since the last time I used it. Going to have learn new things, probably finally get confident with BQL. I never get around to these things until I have to #MayMotivations #Day8
Today I updated lots of LibAnswer FAQs. There’re some I read through & am impressed at what past me has produced (some useful answers that are getting 100s of views a month), & others that are v old or basic & need a lot of work. Lots more answers (old, & new ideas) to do still #MayMotivations #Day7
Today I read a book to a small child in my family. I used to do this all the time, but haven’t so much in recent years. It is so much fun, and I endeavour to do it more often #MayMotivations #Day6
Today I did something that I’m pleased I did and that I hope will make a difference. I want to try and do this more often #MayMotivations #Day5
In our ongoing family Mexican train tournament we - in various groups - played all the way down from 12 to 1 in one day. Not zero - it was late and people were tired by the time we’d finished the 1 game. Delayed #MayMotivations #Day4 : to go from 12 to 0. And maybe for me to win a round sometime.
