ḥ-b-b The common Semitic root which conveys the meaning of love. In Hebrew this root was largely supplanted by the root אהב (ʔhb), but it still exists in 1 verse of the Tanakh and occasionally in the Talmud, and also probably in the name of the brother-in-law of Moses, although he was a Midianite. Modern Hebrew has also borrowed the word حبيبي (ḥabeebi) meaning “my beloved” from Arabic as חביבי with the enclitic pronoun retained.
