An asphodel stem, with numerous buds still closed and the first flowers blooming at the base. The flowers are white, with a dark stripe in the center of each petal along its entire length, also visible in the buds. The flower stem, once dry, is a good fuel for fuel injection to light the fireplace or wood stoves. In some places in Sardinia, the stem of the asphodel is used to create fine artisanal baskets that have long been used for bread making. The dried leaves are used as animal feed. From the roots, alcohol can be obtained and a glue for saddlers and bookbinders.
Asphodels have been blooming for a few days now. Bees are already gathering abundant nectar from these flowers 🙂 asphodel honey is, in my opinion, the best honey! 😋😋 These plants are also useful for other purposes (see ALT text)
