#CrestedCaracara aka #MexicanEagle getting dive bombed by a few #AmericanCrows in the field behind my house. The Crows kept these attack runs going for a while until the Caracara took flight with them in pursuit from behind.

Crested Caracara, aka Mexican Eagle, a raptor of the falcon family. The crest is something to behold, and some birds have bright orange faces.

🌎 Crested caracara (Caracara plancus)

The crested caracara, also known as the Mexican eagle, is a striking bird of prey with a black body, white patches on its neck and wings, and a bright orange-red cere (the fleshy area at the base of its beak). It has a long, hooked beak and a distinctive crest on its head. These birds are found in a variety of habitats across the Americas, from grasslands and savannas to coastal regions. They are opportunistic feeders, eating everything from carrion and insects to small mammals and reptiles. Two subspecies are recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
