Exhausted from a week-long #MidwestFW conference and 3am alarm for a (delayed) flight, along with ~eVeRyThInG eLsE~. Here’s a shorthead redhorse to hopefully brighten our day. #52FishyFridays

Another great #midwestFW! Lab highlights include talks by Aaron (#AIS) and Josh (market segment analysis of license sales), poster by Mackensie (app data to supplement creel surveys), and Fenske nominations to Aaron and Mackensie. Way to go, team! 👏

Theme for today’s #MidwestFW conference plenary was “Changing Focus.” I asked the audience to consider this theme and broaden their focus to include greater biodiversity.

Check out that amazing Fishes of Wisconsin poster by Kandis Elliott and backstory:...

Really appreciated the enthusiasm for native and non-game fishes as #MidwestFW!

After my talk, grad students from Eastern Illinois U showed me their Longnose & Shortnose Gar tattoo, I’m impressed by the innovative #GARtwork!

More often than not, the #fishpuke we collect is a jumbled mess of flesh and bones, but some bones make it really easy to ID which species was eaten. Now working on methods to use these bones to estimate prey size, which I’ll present on at #MidwestFW in Feb! #fishsci #SciComm

One downside of virtual conferences? If you want coffee during the coffee break, you have to make your own! That said, lots of great science at this year’s virtual #MidwestFW!

Tomorrow is the last day for discounted registration for virtual #MidwestFW! This was the first conference I ever attended, and helped me chart my path into #fisheries science. There’s sure to be lots of great talks again this year!
