A blackthorn (presumably) in full bloom)
List of birds detected by the Merlin app
On the 1st day of metrological spring, on the way to #MillMeadows on #TodaysWalk, I spotted this (presumably) blackthorn. I had walked under it, then looking back I saw how lovely it is. At the bottom of the meadow, after the rain had stopped, the bird song was amazing. Merlin listed them.
A clump of Snowdrops
Between the road and the path in #MillMeadows, behind the barbed wire fence, behind the brambles, the first sign of spring - the snowdrops - are in full bloom. #TodaysWalk
Old rotary mower dumped on a meadow footpath.
It's never good to see rubbish dumped in #MillMeadows. An old mower is a bit much though. #TodaysWalk
A dead hedge on the left of a path going up hill.
It's been a while since I was last able to get down this hill. So the dead hedge was new to me. The path it blocks goes to a large oak tree them fizzles out. I have no idea why it needs protecting. #TodaysWalk #MillMeadows
Catkins on a spindley tree
Don't be fooled, the catkins are starting to grow, but winter's not over yet. It's 5°C in #MillMeadows. There's plenty of time left for a cold snap. #TodaysWalk
Left: The moon above a bare tree. Right: New steps up a steep incline
On a cold, still, quiet and frosty afternoon, I went looking for the new steps in #MillMeadows. I found the moon above the trees first, and then later the new steps. They are great, as there is an overgrown diversion for those who can't walk up, or down easily. #TodaysWalk
Large spreading oak, with yellowing leaves
Of the 4 or 5 large spreading oaks at the top of Mill Meadows, this one is furthest along to losing its leaves, by a long way. #TodaysWalk #MillMeadows
A paisley like golden design painted on a tree trunk.
My attention was drawn to this tree covered in these pretty designs, in #MillMeadows. The lady was appreciative of them, as were her small children. On reflection, though, I'm not sure a tree trunk is a proper canvas. #TodaysWalk
Rose hips on the edge of a wild rose bush.
Autumn is underway, and some of its fruitfullness has appeared in abundance. Crops from trees and bushes have been high, so it was no surprise to see these lovely rose hips on #TodaysWalk in #MillMeadows.
Tree growing above the surrounding canopy, pointing to the clouds above
A poplar, possibly, reaching for the clouds. #TodaysWalk #MillMeadows
woodland agaric growing all alone in the bed of a previously dry stream
A type of woodland agaric growing all alone in the bed of a previously dry stream. I did not look underneath to identify the exact type for fear of disturbing it. #TodaysWalk #MillMeadows
Orange fruits in the trees
#TodaysWalk #MillMeadows orange coloured fruits in a tree. Judging by the squashed ones on the ground they are plumbs, but I could be wrong.
Yesterday we went to see the new cows in #MillMeadows. 3cephas.blogspot.com/2025/04/were...
A shiny water trough in front of a hedge, standing in muddy ground.
There are 2 new water troughs in #MillMeadows. This one was shining in the bright sun, which is odd because the photo is taken looking into the sun. They are both empty; I tried to follow the pipe, but lost it as I approached Southend Road. #TodaysWalk
