Minnie Evans was a self-taught artist from NC. Many years ago, I visited the memorial to her at #AirlieGardens in Wilmington where she worked and painted.

A modest but nice Minnie Evans show at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. I particularly like the wall text quote from the 1945 drawing, "My work is just as strange to me as to anyone else." Plus the MFA’s El Anatsui hanging for good measure.

You can tell this was done using crayons, yet the intricacies still come through beautifully. We all know what it is like to color with crayons. To get this amount of detail, shading, etc., is truly a gift all on its own!
