M: Yes. I've actually done it quite a few times. I have cross-over characters in different projects. T: all the time. My current book has a plot thread & actual scenes from an unpublished book I wrote over a decade ago. #momswritersclub

#MomsWritersClub Q5:
(This says 6, but it seems I've lost the original Q5!)

What three colors would you associate with your WIP?

#MomsWritersClub Q4:
Have you ever taken something from the journey of one project and used it to spark another?

#amwriting #momwriters #parentwriters #writingcommunity #momswhowrite

M: I don't know how I haven't, but I haven't. T: frequently - my characters are often talking to people over tea and biscuits in the course of an investigation. But I've also written dinner party scenes, breakfast scenes, picnics... #momswritersclub

M: When I have a draft that i don't have any problems with - I assume. I have yet to see that day. T: when I have to turn it in. But also when I start changing back things I changed on the last edit round. #momswritersclub

M: chronologically but I've written literally two scenes that weren't chronological. T: as scenes come to mind. I write while I plot :-). #momswritersclub

#MomsWritersClub Q3:
It's pretty notorious that in books and films regular bodily functions get ignored. Do you have any scenes of your characters eating?

Happy weekend #momswritersclub! What's everyone up to? I'm buried getting pages ready for my copy editor. On which note, Scrivener kept crashing on compile so I'm having to cut and paste into Word and it's much easier than struggling with cojmple. Has anyone else found that?

Though we write our books alone, I could not have gotten here without the help of some dear friends and mentors. Thanks to my first writing group, formed via #MomsWritersClub: @reginaweaverauthor.bsky.social, @ariella-monti.bsky.social, shanawestlake.bsky.social and Kassie

My main characters are usually single at the start of the story so a romance can develop.

My Blackout Trail book series is MCs over 40. It just fit the storyline - an experienced doctor and a dad. I read books with all age groups. The Spy Coast was a cool thriller about retired ex-spies drawn back into adventures. Enjoyed Keeper of the Lost Cities (YA) with my daughter. #momswritersclub

I love writing about complicated marriages. But I also love writing about relationships between spies - enemies & allies a& back and forth between the two. Also family relationships & friendships. One of the joys of writing a series is following relationships over multiple books. #momswritersclub

The MCs in my series are parents & most of the MCs I've written have been parents.I've also written about MCs and their parents. I used to co-write w/ my mom - we had a book where the relationship between the heroine & her mom was central. That was the book we disagreed the most on! #momswritersclub

Q.6 #momswritersclub Is there a type of relationship you haven't written about yet that you'd like to explore?

Q.5 #momswritersclub Different types of character relationships lend themselves to different types of stories - romance, family drama, political intrigue. Is there one type of relationship you tend to focus on in your writing? If you write more than one genre, does it change by genre?

#Momswritersclub A1:
I usually start with a central character or characters. But I am delving into a new project that centers a relationship!

Q.4 #momswritersclub As parent writers, we can have unique insights into parent-child relationships. Do you usually explore them from the perspective of the parent (MC and children) or child (MC and their parents?

2 0 3 1

This is my question, but I'm actually not sure there's a type of relationship I don't like to write. I will say, while I love writing friendships, it's sometimes a challenge if there's no tension, either between the friends or in their circumstances. #momswritersclub

Q.3 #momswritersclub Conversely, what type of relationship do you least like to write/find hardest?

2 0 2 0

I've always loved exploring marriages and long term romantic relationships. Not the start so much as the complications as the relationship develops and plays out. And I particularly love marriages/long term relationships with secrets. #momswritersclub

Q.2 #momswritersclub There are so many different types of relationship in fiction. Which are your favorite to write? Romantic relationships? Antagonists? Friends? Siblings? Parents and children?

2 0 4 0

T: I write a series and it started with the idea of a married couple who had spied for opposite sides in the Napoleonic wars. So though each is a strong character individually, the relationship started the first book and the series. #momswritersclub

Q.1 #momswritersclub Every new book has characters as a way in. Do your ideas for a new book tend to start with a central character or a central relationship?
