Brixton Hill’s early picture house opened on 10 Mar 1911 as the Brixton Hill Cinematograph, designed by Montagu Pyke, a pioneering cinema entrepreneur. Renamed the Scala, then New Royalty, then Clifton. It had a modest frontage, but seated 1,000.
