The remains of the Neptune statue look over the beach on a chilly December day in Monterosso, Italy, the northernmost town of the Cinque Terre. The 46-foot-tall sculpture, built in the early 1900's, once held a giant shell that served as the terrace for the Villa Pastine, but the statue was damaged by shelling in World War II and then saw further damage by heavy seas in 1966.
