The latest update of the Most Wanted Online mod for the 2005 game Need for Speed Most Wanted uses even stricter anti cheat measures so that the multiplayer modification cannot be started under GNU/Linux any longer. It refuses the network handshake while trying to login to the servers. An alternative that works on GNU/Linux is Need for Speed Carbon Online also known as 'NFSCO'. NFSCO should even work on a Steam Deck which is known to run some type of Arch Linux.
With the newest version of #MostWantedOnline they sadly refuse to shake the hands of little penguins as they are known to be cheaters 😉 #Linux users asking for support also get ignored on their discord server. So if you want to play something similar: Get #NFSCO instead, no cars behind paywalls btw.
