A photo of Mount Hood in Oregon taken from the northwest of it in Washington State at Silver Star Mountain. The snow covered mountain takes up the middle center of the image. It is lit from the far right by low sunlight. Only some of it's very eastern flank is in complete shadow. But many ridges stand out, radiating down from the peak, in contrasting blue against the white snow covered flanks. Some of the dense forest covered lower slopes are visible toward it's base before the foreground. Above the mountain, the sky appears overcast with faint white diffuse banks of clouds. The foreground is a dip in a green forested ridgeline, higher at each left and right edge. The tall mature conifer forest is mainly along the ridgeline, with the lower slopes showing exposures of descending rocky cliff faces, and steep, low brush covered mountainside. All the foreground is in direct sunlight, except some of the cliffside left edges in shadow.
It's #Scape day!
Here's another from a Monday after work hike up Silver Star Mountain. It was a glorious clear day, but really windy and cold up there!
This is the iconic #MountHood from about 35 miles NW.

Despite having left northwest Oregon and Portland in my wake back in 2012, I still miss the magical and majestic sight of #MountHood apparently floating above the terraced layers that comprise the city's east side.
Here's a real short clip from a winter visit to Tamanawas Falls. Repeat as needed.

Views like this one make me incredibly grateful to live in the Pacific Northwest, where one moment it can be raining and another will be filled with clear skies, fall color, and a snow-capped mountain.
Please enjoy "Mount Hood's Last Light!"

In The Distance, Mount Hood Can Be Seen Against A Blue-Grey Sky. The Mountain Is Conical And Only Slightly Visible Under A Cloud That Is Draped Over The Top Two Thirds Of The Mountain. The Foreground Shows A Utility Pole Clearly, With Wires Prominent And Highlighting The 60 Mile Distance Between The Mountain And The Viewer. The Land Between Is Covered In A Mix Of Conifer And Deciduous Trees, With Residential Buildings Reflecting The Last Of The Light.

The final sunrise of 2025, viewed from Joseph Wood Hill Park atop Rocky Butte in Portland, Oregon. Horizontal color photograph: the snow-capped Mount Hood looms over the outskirts of Portland and the less Cascade Mountains around it. It is about a third of the way in from the left of the image, and its peak is about a third of the way up from the bottom of the image. Above the stratovolcano, the clouds clouds glow with the red-orange light of pre-sunrise, eventually, towards the very top of the image, transition to more purples and blues. Below Mount Hood, you can see glimpses of the forest and homes.

Vertical color photograph: Twin evergreen trees are silhouetted against the snow-capped Mount Hood and red-orange clouds of the pre-sunrise beyond. The trees are to the left and right of the image, and Mount Hood rises between them to just below the midpoint of the image. A monochrome (Black and white) photo of a waterfall in Winter with snow and ice, as it drops over a suspended cliff face into a bowl made from ice and snow at it's base. The ice clings to the underside of the cliff, mainly behind the waterfall on it's left. The cliff face dips down from both the left and right, forming a wide "V" shape where the waterfall drops. The edges of the cliff are coated with snow and beyond the edge are tall dark conifers with snow on their branches. The cliff faces are roughly textured in mottled grey stone and dark mosses. There is a cavity behind the falls, below the hanging part of the cliff, where the blown white ice from the freezing waterfall spray collects in a slope down into the built up bowl where the base of the waterfall is hidden inside. In the foreground, a slope of snow descends steeply from center left, then sweeps to the right more gently to the right of center. The slope has some leafless brush visible poking up out of the snow. To the right side in the foreground is a small slim tall conifer standing all the way to the top of the photo on that side.
Oh! It's #WaterfallWednesday again! #ChristmasEve version!

Horizontal color photograph: a view of Mount Hood from Joseph Wood Hill Park atop Rocky Butte in Portland, Oregon. Mist-shrouded, wood-cloaked, suburbs make up the foreground. Just before the vertical mid-point of the image, the Cascade Mountains rear up into the sky, dominated by the snow capped cone of Mount Hood towering over the lesser peaks around it. Above the mountains, the sky is a reddish purple. About 2/3rds of the way up a set of thin, gray-blue clouds breaks up the gloom, and as the eye continues to to the top of the frame, the sky colors slowly shift to light blue-purple.
Mount Hood at Sunset

A photo of a night sky FULL of stars over a snowy Mount Hood in Oregon. Only a few exposures of black rock on the mountain's ridgelines are visible. The mountainside facing forward is partially lit by the glow from the metro area of Portland, OR, a fair distance away. The glow in the sky right behind the mountain is from the main ski area, Timberline. Trees in the forest below the mountain, and around the lake are only dark silhouettes. The reflection from the lake below is scattered and subtle because the lake is frozen over. I was not expecting that because this lake doesn't freeze often.

A photo of a summertime view over alpine meadows of bright wildflowers and small alpine forest trees, with the iconic cone shaped Cascade mountain volcano, Mount Hood nearby in the background. The wildflowers are in the foreground with purple lupines being the most abundant. Some splashes of red paint brush poking up, and a little white heather. Most of the scene almost 3/4 of the way up the image is slanted downhill from upper left to lower right. Above the wildflower meadow is a huge grey boulder that boarders a forest of small alpine evergreen trees, with some grey ones that have died behind them, then another darker green stand of forest under a more distant rocky high ridgeline. Beyond and above the ridgeline are the high flanks and peak of Mount Hood, with it's white glacier fields and rough rocky outcrops of subtle grey/browns, and dull reds between. The sky above is a brilliant blue, with only a few hazy clouds close to the lower right of the mountain.
I *need* a spot of color today!
