It is unreasonably difficult to find out how tall #MountSaintHelens was in 1970. I can't even find out how tall it is NOW, as it gets lost in the absolute overwhelming glut of information in the Wikipedia entry about it.

I spent yesterday reading through USGS reports and incidental media about what happened 45 years ago on 5/18/80.
At the time I was stationed in Frankfurt, West Germany and watched in horror at the enormity of #MountSaintHelens basically blowing up on TV.

For weeks, friends and I watched Mt. St. Helens billow ash and steam from my 3rd-story apartment on Seattle's Capitol Hill—Belmont & Olive. But that Sunday morning, 45 years ago today, I missed seeing the big event somehow. I believe there was a marine layer, or I was not at home.
