A close up of Mount Rainier in the distance looming over nearer green forested mountains that slope down to a valley below.
Mount Rainier, or Tahoma shows only it's upper snow capped flanks, coating both rocky ridges and the surfaces of glaciers.
The sky is a pale blue, with only one cloud making a puffy smudge away from Rainiers summit.

A close up of Mount Saint Helens south side with snow down to the forests on it's lower flanks. These forests did not get destroyed in the 1980 eruption like everything on the North side of the mountain.
The mountain and it's lower flanks take on shades of blue because of the distance of about 30 miles.
It's left side shows less features than it's right side due to the sun angle which is coming from the far left, and low.
The right side shows many furrows and creases that are left overs from the scarring made by hot mud flows roaring down during the 1980 eruption. Dark exposed rocky ridgelines show more on this side as well.
The foreground dense green forested mountainsides show a few rocky ridges sticking out of the forest. Long shadows lead down to the valleys below on the right flanks.
The sky over the mountain is a pale blue without clouds.

A wider photo with both Mount Saint Helens (to the left), and Mount Rainier (To the right before a small alpine evergreen in the foreground).
The sky over the two massive snow clad mountains is almost cloudless, except for a small cloud to the right of Mount Rainiers summit. The nearer mountainsides are almost covered in green forest, with deep shadows on their right side.
The sun illumination is from the left and low. So the big mountains both show shading on the right sides.
In the immediate foreground is a fairly flat area with lichen covered outcroppings of stone jutting out of the ground. Small tough shrubs poke up between the stone in patches. And a small evergreen tree is on the right edge, it's white bark is visible between sparce tough limbs that are all short and horizontal. The plants have adapted for a lot of snow and wind at this place.

One of the peaks that make up Silver Star Mountain in Washington State.
The peak is very cone shaped, lit from the right, and crisscrossed by a trail switching back and forth across it's flank facing us. A little snow is visible on the cones left side in the sunlight.
Above the rocky peak are faint high clouds low down in the otherwise blue sky, and a jet contrail from the upper left side to the corner upper right diagonally. A few trees are on the right slope (three).
Along a foreground slope, more tall green alpine conifers descend down a shallow draw down to the right. A gray wide trail leads from the lower left into the trees, then turns toward them and disappears around a nearby corner.
The while landscape is covered in low tan dormant grasses, and lighter green small brush and green moss covered stones.

A photo of a mountainous landscape.
The illumination is from the Sun at a low angle, out of frame to the left.
In the foreground is a sunlit rocky outcrop, shaded on the right facing positions of the jutting stone. The stone is overall colored by abundant lichens, in rusty oranges, and dull lime greens.
In the lower right corner is a close foreground patch of very tough low green brush. on a steep slope only exposed in the very corner of the photo.
Behind the rocky outcrop are distant forest covered low mountainsides.
And above those, against the blue sky, is the volcano and Cascade mountain known as Mount Saint Helens, which erupted infamously in 1980.
It looks like a huge white snow covered hump. It's Left side has subtle detail, but hard to see in the abundant sunshine. The Right side shows a lot of detail of radiating clefts in the mountains descending flanks.
that are filled by late afternoon shadow.

That is Mount Saint Helens on the horizon, in case you're not familiar.

Across a brown valley with scattered greenery, cut through with canyons and gullies, Mt. St. Helens rises against a blue sky with white clouds, the open side of the mountain facing towards us, letting us peek into the caldera.

Snow covered Mt St Helens is seen in the upper third center of the photo surrounded by blue sky above and darker blue foothills immediately below. Below the foothills is the landscape of southwest Washington and north Portland, Oregon with the blue waters of the Columbia River running horizontally in between.

Mt St Helens was glowing in the sunshine this past Saturday as I was out soaking up the beautiful sights on this rare 60Β° sunny last day of January here in Portland!

A photo of a huge round topped, snow covered mountain in afternoon light from the left. It dominates the image from the middle up, and stands out from the whispy high clouds with patches of blue sky in the upper background. The surface of the mountain shows heavily eroded long clefts down it's flanks that have a deep blue color at the distance this was taken. The East face is fully in shadow.
The snow seems to end abruptly at the tree line on the mountains lower flanks, and the forest is almost continuous across all the lower terrain in the photo, including the nearby foreground which shows the tall pointy tops of mature evergreen conifers off to a ridgeline, and then on upward toward the hills below the mountain.
All the trees shaded sides are to the right from the low sun to the far left off frame.

This is a photo of Mount Saint Helens in Southwestern Washington State during Winter. It had a catastrophic eruption event on May 18, 1980. But the pure devastation was to the mountains North. This is the mountains South side, which suffered other effects of the eruption.

Traffic flows across the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington as Mt. St. Helens looms in the distance. View from Rocky Butte in Portland. Vertical color photo: in the foreground car headlights and taillights form streaks of color along the long graceful curve of the I-205 bridge over the Columbia River, visible about 2/5s of the way up into the frame. The traffic leads the eye to the stunted cone of Mount Saint Helens, which is still tall enough to be covered in snow. The sky above the stratovolcano is a lovely blue, with some thin clouds at the very top of the image.

From the paternal files: Mt. St. Helens, not long before the massive eruption of 18 May, 1980. The caption was in mom's handwriting. I witnessed the event when living in my then-home atop one of the Boring Lava Buttes in Oregon -about 50 miles away. #analogphotography #mtsthelens

A tall waterfall drops over sheer cliffs at the top of the photo, just below a bright blue sky. The cliff and the landscape are without trees or brush because this is very near the crater of Mount Saint Helens volcano. In fact, the waterfall is fed from a young glacier inside the crater.
Just below the blue sky at the top left, the crater rim is just visible, with a small cloud of ash and dust blowing off of it.
The sun is to the far left off frame, and casts shadows from the cliff wall near the falls. Closer to the viewer, the cliff casts it's shadow broadly across the bottom of the ravine the creek runs down from the falls above. The creek is visible tumbling down a small set of falls and exits at the bottom of the frame toward the right.
The cliffs all are barren, but show variations in color in pinks, dull oranges, dusky greys, and pale ashen hues. The texture of the cliffs is complex and a bit jumbled, with a lot of fallen loose small, debris fanning out below them, and on their tops.
The creek between the falls and it's lower cataracts, seems to disappear behind a curve in some of the debris fans.
The cliff the falls drops from has a more horizontal form, while it's right face descends steeply toward the middle right.
The left side of the canyon wall is shaded and drops almost vertical to the bottom.

A photo of a tall waterfall dropping from a rugged forested cliff side just above small lake, which reflects it softly.
The left side of the waterfall shows exposed grey vertical cliff face. While the right side has large evergreen trees rising alongside. In the lake in front and to the right of the falls is a standing snag with no branches. It has a charcoal coloration. The show between the large and the falls has a number of small brushy plants, with the water tumbling down between them into the lake.
The large water is mildly disturbed, giving reflections in it a soft quality.
In the foreground in the lake, a grey wet log rests, and serves as a bed for small clumps of grasses in Fall colors of gold and light orange, from left to right, the left side being more bare of grasses.
Faint details of soft dark features under the water show through the clean water.

So here it is prominently featured with the lake below. 😁
