The #MahdistUprising in #Sudan that began in 1881 had its greatest success with the ten-month #SiegeOfKhartoum, which began #ThisDayInHistory in 1884. #MuhammadAhmad, called #TheMahdi, led an anti-colonial nationalist movement against Egypt, which had controlled Sudan since 1820.
