Jumping (tardily) on the #MuseumSuperBowl bandwagon with this ornate bowl engraved with a female figure, maybe the sea nymph Amphitrite, sitting on a chimera-like animal.
It was given in 1925 to Annie Warren Gill, fourth founding member of the RCN who then became RCN President in 1927.

Printed portrait of physician Cromwell Mortimer (1693 - 1752). He is pictured sitting at his desk head on hand, papers are under his elbow and books on the floor. An owl is perched on the desk holding an inkstand in its beak. Behind him stands Folly dressed as a fool reaching out to place a peacock feather on the physician's head. The print is titled: 'Here Folly, Ignorance, and Pride, Combine To prove Him, of the true Duncean line.'

We are looking at a hammered silver bowl or dish with wavy lines and a prayer engraved around the rim. In the centre are silver marks.

Not everything in our very old Hall is very old. This bowl is a good example:
Made in 2000 this Christening bowl/dish has the Merchant Adventurers prayer and wavy lines representing its seafaring past.
Ceramic bowl shaped to form three owl's heads with eyes and a beak for each. There are incised lines forming the feathers. The whole is covered in a green glaze.

How about the fact it's 46cm wide, 18cm deep and could hold around 15 litres - that's 34 cans of beer!
They probably just filled it with beef though, for transporting it to the crew from the galley.
