Religions take the cast and hue of the cultures in which they find root. This was certainly true in #Tibet when #Buddhism arrived in the 7th century. It transformed and […]
Red Fire Hydrant, musical notation circling outside as frame and text also that reads obaby light my fire, flames getting higher, i hear my prison cell, crackle forth to hell.
No mediation on this one besides saying that the musical notation is from The Doors, Come on Baby Light my Fire. #art #writing #poem #musicalnotation #music #intermedia
Pegs on a one side of a rotary line, similar to notes on a stave.

If you're counting 16th notes in 4/4, what you're hearing is 2 measures of 3-2 rumba clave followed by me playing eighth note triplets that start on the last 16th of the measure. How would you notate that?#rhythmexercises #musicalnotation #percussion_instrument
An image of three starlings, perched on electric wires. A fourth starling is in flight, having just left its perch. The starlings and the wires appear black, silhouetted against a pale cloudy morning sky.

Page of Latin verse text in Caroline minuscule with neumes (musical markings) over the text on the first half of the page)
found first a hymn about St. Ansbert. With #neumes! I wanted to be sure this wasn't the verse life listed in the MS description, so I read a few lines and it's immediately apparent: it's in rhythmic trochaic tetrameter catalectic, hymn meter par excellence. #poeticmeter #musicalnotation
The image shows a snippet of a musical score (a stave with a single note), black on a white background. A stave comprises five horizontal lines, with a crochet note (black oval) between the top and next lines. The crochet has a vertical line descending from its left-hand end. On the right, there is a much longer vertical line, extending from above the stave to below it. Above the crochet is a mark that looks like a (proportionally) wide, rounded, lower-case letter-m, which depicts a Curlew in flight.
I've discovered the "Curlew Pause"! It's a mark invented by Benjamin Britten for his opera "Curlew River" (1964), which is why it looks like a Curlew in flight. I can't find it in unicode (Noto Music has 579 glyphs, but not this one), but maybe one day 🙏🏼 #Typography #MusicalNotation #Symbols
