So glad I came to #nacis2019 this year, I had such a blast.
Itβs great that @NACIS is working to make the society and conf more inclusive. We can still do better, and Iβm thankful for everyone talking about and working on #diversity and #inclusion, letβs make sure to keep at it
.@visualvariable asking the tough questions, βwhere have all the creative terrain legends gone?β #nacis2019
Hey #nacis2019 check out this great article by fellow @nacis member @dosmonos about everyone's (or at least @tierneyl 's) fave geographer, Alexander von Humboldt! Also find the fan-girl quote from me at the end!...
@infowetrust really gave us a powerful and visual tour of how he sees cartography being a crucial part of visualization, Iβm totally impressed!

There was just a Prince πΈ reference in Josie Myersβ Social Narratives talk, where is @elaineguidero!?!? #nacis2019
Wow the amount of research and experimentation by Margot Carpenter that went into creating a #surf map of the Saco Bay was so fun to learn about and resulted in a really beautiful map #nacis2019
And now @margot_carto is talking exactly about this, representing land cover w/ colored line work!! Yay #nacis2019
.@margot_carto shows that surfing ππ»ββοΈ in New England does exist with this beautiful map of Sasco Bay, Maine! #nacis2019
Love the colored contour lines on the 1920s map of Mt Everest in @taitmaps talks. Anyone ever done colored contours to match w/ hyspo tints or global landvover? #nacis2019
Really great explanation of how various classification methods affect gradient maps of raptor tracks by Melanie Smith of @audubonsociety

Truly eloquent & inspiring keynote by @kateonmars to kick off #nacis2019. Esp. appreciate her love of travel stories by women who aren't looking to find themselves, who know exactly who they are but want to find something new! Can't wait to dive into her π Land of Lost Borders!
No one better than @mamataakella to finish off a fantastic #nacis2019 PCD talking crazy cool viz tools from @CARTO! And yes, she is the #amazingwife of @MapBaker!
These hand-drawn map examples from @MollyOHalloran_ are so mesmerizing. It's like a massage for my brainπ§ ! #NACIS2019
The manual cartography techniques, like using water color, by Molly OβHalloran are so beautiful and eloquently and masterfully implemented. Watching her make these maps and explain the process is magical and a real treat

Damn Iβm seriously impressed anytime I see a talk by folks at the @nytimes graphics. Denise Liu and KK Rebecca Lai are totally killing it with sharing insights to their automated #cartography techniques, like βfakingβ a slippy map using #imagemagick and #D3js
#NACIS2019
Super impressed with the automated workflow demo'd by @kkrebeccalai and @DeniseDSLu showing some handy-dandy Mapshaper commands. I always forget about Mapshaper until someone once again shows its power each year at NACIS! #nacis2019
Seems like programmatic cartography techniques are being demoed more and more each year I come to #NACIS which is really awesome.
I wonder though how many attendees find it useful vs feel overwhelmed by it and what can be done to reduce the latter?
#NACIS2019
Really impressive talk by @mulletmapping on using #Blender3d for conventional and non-conventional #cartography like shaded relief of Glacier NP and income inequality in Los Angeles
#nacis2019
FYI @KatieKowalsky is the president of Chillerton πβπΌπΊ #NACIS2019
