lol guess who /finally/ got COVID?
THIS GUY
Anyone who was at #NAPC2024 btw might want to be on the lookout for it
Photo of me in a brightly colored shirt holding up my three middle fingers (palm facing) to symbolize a typical three-toed theropod track; in the background is a photo-wall with repeated icons of a mastodon skull, Dunkleosteusl skull, fern fossil, and a well-polished “petoskey”” stone,” which is a colonial rugged coral.
Last day for me at #NAPC2024, flying back to Atlanta GA this evening. Heard they had a photo wall for us to take portraits, so here’s a selfie of me flashing my theropod-track-gang sign. It was paleo-real, it was paleo-fun! Thanks to all for their hard work to make this happen. #FossilFtiday
After 10+ years of not meeting IRL, finally encountered Dr. @jacquelyngill.bsky.social at the #NAPC2024 meeting! As PBS Newshour might say, it was brief, but spectacular.
Northern Hogsucker on the Huron River in Ann Arbor; apparently gets into some trouble with a bass!
Fossil catostomids (suckers) were among the fishes discussed during our symposium @Napc2024! I’m still on the lookout for gars near the dam! #NAPC2024
Had a great time at #napc2024, my first paleo conference. Also went on the Blue Ridge Esker field trip, pulled out about 10 partial cephalopods.

Oh yeah, it’s #FossilFriday! So talking about trace fossils today at #NAPC2024 with lots of my fellow paleo-nerds in the audience is very much appropriate.
Two fossil whale skeletons hanging from the ceiling
Visited some old friends @ummnh.bsky.social this week, in honor of #FossilFriday! Basilosaurus (my senior year work-study prep project 😍) is on the left, Dorudon is on the right. #NAPC2024 🧪 ⚒️
White rippled sandstone bed (10-15 cm thick) seen from its side, with its internal bedding cut by vertical burrows; this bed is in the Denver Basin D1 sedimentary sequence near Colorado Springs, CO.
For anyone who'd like to learn about how life found a way after the end-Cretaceous mass extinction, please come to my
#NAPC2024 talk "Traces of Ecological Recovery in Paleocene Freshwater Ecosystems at Corral Bluffs (Denver Basin), Colorado," Kuenzel Room, 11:30 a.m. #Ichnology
Also, yes, I'll be in Ann Arbor today, so if you're at #NAPC2024, you can also reach me out personally.
Where are my plant people at, #NAPC2024? I’ve got a talk at 8 am tomorrow (sorry!) using fossil pollen to ask: are novel plant communities also novel ecosystems when it comes to function? And why does it matter? 🍃 🍁 🍂
Excited to attend my first paleontology (??!!) conference, @Napc2024!
I’ll be talking about living fossils at a fossil meeting…should be fun! #NAPC2024
ooh shit heating up here today in the crinoid anatomy fandom #NAPC2024
Good morning, #NAPC2024! It’s a Tuesday #BEASTLab double header! Come for some mammoth 💩 at 9:15 (Union Anderson), and stay for the megafaunal extinctions at 10:30 (Union 2210).
Day 2 of #NAPC2024
My plenary talk yesterday with Dr. Jen Bauer was a success.
I get to just listen today. So many interesting presentations and not enough time to see them all.
Friday morning we have the avocational session.
Marmot (ground hog) walking from grass into bushes next to a pond, seen in Ann Arbor, MI.
Nice marmot! Spotted while waiting for a bus to the #NAPC2024 meeting in Ann Arbor, MI.

In honor of #NAPC2024 at my old alma mater, I offer some lesser known Samuel L. Jackson dinosaur content to get everyone in a groovy paleontology mood. #SandraBoynton

Perspective view of the University of Michigan student union building in Ann Arbor, with a brick-supported sign in front saying “Michigan Union.” Blue cloudless sky above, flowers in the foreground, tree to the left.
Flew from Atlanta GA to Detroit MI this a.m., then bus to Ann Arbor for the #NAPC2024 meeting (= North American Paleontological Convention). A fine start, looking forward to more fossil-fueled fun tomorrow.
Booping the noggin of the Teratophoneus in Ann Arbor.
Hey if you're at #NAPC2024 come by and say hello!
The @UMaine #BEASTLab is at #NAPC2024! Check out our talks on woolly mammoth diets, Pleistocene extinctions, and late Quaternary plant traits. I'm also happy to chat with prospective graduate students while I'm here. 🦣🌍🍂
COVID-19 waster water tracking map with a blue arrow pointing to Ann Arbor, Michigan where cases are "HIGH"
Be safe everyone at #NAPC2024! COVID is still on and cases are up in Ann Arbor (blue arrow). MASK UP. Don't let it become a mass-extinction super-spreader like #2023SVP. So many + COVID announcements after it, just made me sad.
(for context: I’m at #NAPC2024 and Julius Csotonyi is showing off some artwork in his plenary session talk.)
There are a couple of last minute openings on the #NAPC2024 #Claddis workshop. DM me if you want a spot. First come first served.
Traveling tomorrow to #NAPC2024 (North American Paleontological Convention) in Ann Arbor MI to hang out with 700+ of my paleontologically inclined friends & only a few nemeses. Former student of mine is presenting a poster tomorrow & I'm giving a talk Friday. See all ya'll soon! 🧪🪨🦖🦣🦟🌿
There will be almost 800 attendees. There's a huge spectrum of topics. I'll finally get to meet so many paleontologists that I've only talked with online. It's going to be amazing.
#NAPC2024
The plenary session is free for everyone to attend and will be livecast here Monday morning from 8-12 (our talk is ~9:15): www.youtube.com/live/9Xw1RuG...
The entire program with abstracts can be found here: sites.lsa.umich.edu/napc2024/wp-...
#NAPC2024
The North American Paleontological Convention (NAPC 2024) is coming to Ann Arbor next week. I've been asked to talk about the Friends and UMMP with Dr. Jen Bauer during the opening plenary session. I'm also presenting and hosting the avocational/amateur club session on Friday morning.
#NAPC2024
NAPC is finally here! I'll be there for the first few days next week. Taphonomy/Ichnofossil talks on Monday, bouncing around a few rooms Tuesday, Slicer workshop and the Blue Ridge Esker field trip on Wednesday. Be there or be square!
