This was the first aircraft to land at the South Pole on Oct. 31, 1956.
You can see the mounts for the JATO bottles that were used to get the plane unstuck from the ice at take-off.

Bombing Squadron 2B "High Hats" redesignated many times and is now VFA-14 "Tophatters". Formed in 1919 - the US Navy's oldest active squadron.
