Reagan fired PATCO (air traffic controllers) in 1981. It was a signal to every corporation in America that they too could bust their union. (Ditto PM Thatcher in the UK.)
#NATCA (the next ATC union) was formed before Reagan left office. Not everybody else was so lucky.

For my entire 25-year career with the FAA, managers and every administration thought they could replace air traffic controllers with technology. They failed. Every single time. For my 25 years. And now, almost 20 more years on top of that.
Nothing will fix this but more controllers #PATCO #NATCA
