The Conservatives turned a blind eye as record levels of illegal sewage polluted rivers in #NEHerts, with the Cottered Brook, the Weston Tributary and The River Quin the worst affected.

Today I voted for the Water (Special Measures) Bill to clean up the mess left by the #Tories.

In Monday's Environmental Audit Committee session I asked the Energy Secretary if, under this Government, it's possible to ever deny any major infrastructure works, some of which worry #NEHerts constituents.

Pleased Ed Miliband confirmed it is, while reinforcing the need to tackle #climatechange.

Over the past few weeks I've met with hundreds of #farmers from across #NEHerts to discuss a range of matters, from tax and financing to environmental schemes, innovation and sustainability.

It's been a privilege to learn so much about the challenges, and opportunities, of modern day farming.

For nearly three weeks many people in Sandon and Wallington have been left without internet or phone services due to an ongoing outage.

I have written to the Chief Executive of Openreach to express the urgent need to fix the issue, and to compensate customers.

Thames Water: Boss defends bonuses as sewage spills soar Thames Water saw a 40% increase in pollution incidents in the first half of the year as its debts continued to swell.

Last year saw over 4,000 hours of raw sewage pumped into #NEHerts' rivers by @thameswater, with the Cottered Brook, the Weston Tributary and The River Quin (Barkway) the worst affected.

Bonuses are completely unacceptable while pollution and debts continue to rise.

The announcement that the #Vauxhall factory in neighbouring #Luton is set to close, putting 1100 jobs at risk, has many #NEHerts constituents deeply worried.

Yesterday I asked the Secretary of State for Business and Trade what steps the Government is taking to mitigate job losses.

Three things I got up to last week:
1️⃣ Met with several #NEHerts farmers during the National Farmers Union rally to discuss their concerns.
2️⃣ Participated in a @newstatesman.com roundtable on #watersecurity.
3️⃣ Took part in my first Environmental Audit Committee session on sustainable planning reform.
