Flooding is a huge issue in #NEHerts.

Every year, villages find themselves cut off while water from poorly drained rivers and floodplains pours into local homes and businesses.

I'm pleased to see greater levels of funding announced for flooding defences in the constituency.

Delighted that Hormead CofE First & Nursery School in #NEHerts will will be one of the first to offer a free breakfast club.

Breakfast clubs boost parents' work choices and children's life chances. That's why Labour will roll them out across every primary school in England.

Chris. It's Anglian Water not Thames Water that is the sewage undertaker for Letchworth, Baldock, Royston, Sandon and Barley. Last month Letchworth sewage works overflowed into Pix Brook and Barley sewage works overflowed into the Fowlmere stream. #NEHerts #Anglian-Water

Chris Hinchliff MP: Bank closures are a 'blow to rural communities' North East Herts MP Chris Hinchliff on the decision to close banking hubs, and the impact it has on rural communities.

I've made clear my deep disappointment about Lloyds Banking Group's decision to close the Halifax branch in Letchworth.

I will continue to advocate for solutions that ensure everyone in #NEHerts has access to the banking services they require.

2023 saw raw sewage pumped into #NEHerts watercourses for over 4,000 hours, with the Cottered Brook, the Weston Tributary, and The River Quin the worst affected.

I've asked Thames Water how our existing sewage infrastructure is supposed to handle 100s of proposed new properties.

Great to catch up with Chris of Bethnal&Bec Luxury Stays in Cottered this afternoon to discuss some of the challenges facing the tourism industry in #NEHerts.

Small businesses like this are the beating heart of our rural communities.

Suspected hare coursing in Hertfordshire captured by drones Police say the suspects caused significant damage to fields.

Awful to see this happening in Therfield, particularly after a morning spent talking about the importance of protecting our wildlife.

I hope the culprits are caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The Conservatives turned a blind eye as record levels of illegal sewage polluted rivers in #NEHerts, with the Cottered Brook, the Weston Tributary and The River Quin the worst affected.

Today I voted for the Water (Special Measures) Bill to clean up the mess left by the #Tories.

In Monday's Environmental Audit Committee session I asked the Energy Secretary if, under this Government, it's possible to ever deny any major infrastructure works, some of which worry #NEHerts constituents.

Pleased Ed Miliband confirmed it is, while reinforcing the need to tackle #climatechange.

Three highlights from last week:
1. Engaging #NEHerts constituents remotely in my online Q&A

2. Discussing the Water (Special Measures) Bill with @38degrees.bsky.social, @sascampaigns.bsky.social and River Action UK

3. Voting to establish a role which independently champions our military personnel

At last week's @commonseac.bsky.social inquiry session, I referenced the palpably unsustainable development that has taken place in North East Hertfordshire, and the need for stronger protections in our planning system.

I hope the government is listening.

In #NEHerts, Barkway, Buntingford, Royston, Puckeridge and Standon have all experienced rapid development. Letchworth and Baldock are also set to grow.

It's common sense to make the most of new homes by making rooftop solar mandatory.

This situation in Gaza is an issue that many #NEHerts constituents have passionately written to me about.

I hope the ceasefire will bring an end to the agony and devastation, and open the way to a safer future for Palestinians and Israelis alike.

This Labour Government is tackling the broken rental system.

Renters' rights and protections will be strengthened by the Renters Rights Bill.

Ending no fault evictions, which have been issued to 100,000s of households over the years, will help keep roofs over heads in #NEHerts and beyond.

Good to meet with Cllr Duncan Wallace, the Mayor of Buntingford Town Council, this afternoon, to discuss a suite of challenges facing the town, ranging from sustainable housing development to rural policing.

I will always seek to work closely with our local representatives to deliver for #NEHerts.

Great to meet with Maxine Bromyard, CEO of
East Herts Citizens Advice today.

The organisation provides vital advisory services to many of my #NEHerts constituents, covering matters like energy bills and social housing.

Over the past few weeks I've met with hundreds of #farmers from across #NEHerts to discuss a range of matters, from tax and financing to environmental schemes, innovation and sustainability.

It's been a privilege to learn so much about the challenges, and opportunities, of modern day farming.

For nearly three weeks many people in Sandon and Wallington have been left without internet or phone services due to an ongoing outage.

I have written to the Chief Executive of Openreach to express the urgent need to fix the issue, and to compensate customers.

Thames Water: Boss defends bonuses as sewage spills soar Thames Water saw a 40% increase in pollution incidents in the first half of the year as its debts continued to swell.

Last year saw over 4,000 hours of raw sewage pumped into #NEHerts' rivers by @thameswater, with the Cottered Brook, the Weston Tributary and The River Quin (Barkway) the worst affected.

Bonuses are completely unacceptable while pollution and debts continue to rise.

Standing room only at my first coffee morning in the village of #Ashwell - over 80 in attendance!

Topics ranged from dangerous road junctions and encouraging active travel, to deploying rooftop solar and building new homes while preserving village integrity.

Thanks to all who came!

The announcement that the #Vauxhall factory in neighbouring #Luton is set to close, putting 1100 jobs at risk, has many #NEHerts constituents deeply worried.

Yesterday I asked the Secretary of State for Business and Trade what steps the Government is taking to mitigate job losses.

Three things I got up to last week:
1️⃣ Met with several #NEHerts farmers during the National Farmers Union rally to discuss their concerns.
2️⃣ Participated in a @newstatesman.com roundtable on #watersecurity.
3️⃣ Took part in my first Environmental Audit Committee session on sustainable planning reform.
