We spoke to Stella, who’s ‘largely given up engaging with NHS services’ due to her experiences as a deaf person. www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-...

On a teal background sits black text. There are three numbered items. The first: 1. Put admin on the agenda. Admin shapes patient experience and public perceptions of the NHS. 2. Measure patients' experience of admin. Only one national survey asks people about their experiences of admin. We need more national and local patient feedback data. 3. Develop clear goals for admin with patients and staff. Keep national and local systems accountable for delivering great admin that meets the needs of local communities.

Reduce the admin burden placed on patients and carers. Great admin can help address health inequalities. 6. Invest in admin staff development. Recognise the role admin staff can play in patient experience and addressing health inequalities.

And #NHSAdmin outsourcing - whether to Capita, somewhere in India, or some whizzy tech salesman - continues to worsen the problem & everyone knows it (this reply was reshared by one of the report authors!) yet that inconvenient fact is absent from media/think tank reports bsky.app/profile/lead...

Can I ask @wpett.bsky.social why the outsourcing issue Kate mentions, which is so obviously central to what’s happened with #NHSAdmin in recent years, isn’t mentioned at all in the “long read”?

Hey ho, I expect there’s an #NHSAdmin Tsar waiting in the wings somewhere, and a series of KF #NHSAdmin courses in the pipeline, that NHS organisations can pay to send their management teams on 😬

9 1 2 0

I mean there’s been National Audit Office reports & serious questions in parliament & BMA complaints about Capita’s massive & ongoing contract to slash NHS admin costs, leading to serious problems including letter delays that compromised safety, I’d have though that was worth mentioning? #NHSAdmin 🤷‍♀️

It’s weird that KF can do a whole long read on #NHSadmin /NHS communications being insufficiently joined up (true, obv) without mentioning
a) much of it has been outsourced (Capita etc)
b) much of the rest got dumped on clinical staff to do as admin teams & office space slashed in “lean” reforms?
