Here’s the history of the #NINR: Even though the NIH dates back to 1887, it took over 100 years for nursing to get their own institute. The NINR was first established as a center in 1985 and officially became an institute in 1993. www.ninr.nih.gov/aboutninr/hi...
Nurses fought very hard to have our own institute. Initially, it was still led by an MD. We’re a profession that is ~87% female. Only 0.4% of RNs have a PhD. We establish the knowledge that supports our practice. Eliminating the #NINR threatens our profession’s hard-fought independence as a science.
