Are you at #NWOphysics? Don’t miss Jasmin Fisher Balil’s poster presentation (today 13:00–14:10) on how to combine different stabilization strategies for red-emitting nanocrystals in spectral conversion foils. 🔵 〰️ 🔴
De volgende jaarlijkse Nederlandse natuurkundeconferentie #NWOPhysics wordt pas op 21 en 22 januari 2026 gehouden ... de deadline voor het insturen van suggesties voor sessies ligt 7 maanden daarvoor. Even scherp zijn dus.
Samen met Margriet van der Heijden een mooie suggestie ingestuurd 🤞
Heel mooie stap! En een heel goed idee voor #NWOPHYSICS. Laten we nou wat meer leren van die astronomen
Last week, I had the opportunity to present our work on Outcome-Driven Microscopy at #NWOphysics! It was a very nice experience to share our project using #automation and #optogenetics with a new audience.
What a great plenary lecture from @elisabethbik.bsky.social ! #NWOphysics a lot to learn for any scientist, and most importantly, a lot to teach to our students about how to detect and how to avoid scientific fraud. Great job! 👏👏👏🔬🔬🔬
Loved your talk at #nwophysics! And also somewhat concerned now… 😅
The best audience I DJ for each year are the attendees at #NWOPhysics in Veldhoven.
An absolute pleasure to share the stage with @elisabethbik.bsky.social and hear about her great work on scientific integrity #NWOPhysics 2025. Thank you for the inspiring plenary lecture!
At NWO Physics conference in Veldhoven! Our team presented on biomolecular condensates and circuit topology!

Emoji award for the first person to guess who gives the evening lecture at #NWOPhysics!
Celebrating two fantastic colleagues tonight at #NWOPhysics. With the Athena award for Prof. Liesbeth Janssen and the Minerva prize for Prof. Hanneke Gelderblom, this is a great evening for TU Eindhoven! ⚛️

Barry in front of a well-designed poster.
BWF: Here are some great posters. Short titles, cartoons, one name at top, other authors as photos at the bottom, things to remember. And start your presentation with your one minute pitch.
#NWOPhysics
The presenter shows a slide with one of his old posters with lots of text and graphs and a long title.
BWF: I made lots of bad posters in the past myself. Don’t put all your data and graphs on the poster. Minimize. Use a short title. Use sans serif fonts.
#NWOPhysics
BF: many posters are papers in disguise. They follow Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. But that won’t make a good poster. Embrace the white space !
#NWOPhysics
A good pitch could follow the ABT principle:
And: setting the scene
But: the problem that needs to be solved
Therefore: what you do to solve the problem.
Record yourself!
#NWOPhysics
BF: Do not show everything! You have to be able to pitch the poster in less than a minute. Storytelling is important, as well as fundamental structure.

Attending a workshop by @barrywscience.bsky.social about poster design, who describes himself as a ‘serial postdoc’. How can you revolutionize your poster?
(And how to keep them hanging hahaha!).

Fallen poster with some text and images visible. It is still moving although not visible from the photo.
This one is - no kidding - still moving.
(Reposting because the photo failed to attach).

#FallenPosterSyndrome
Poster in portrait format with irregular edges about “Solving A Model of Random Flat Disks” by Bart Zonneveld at Radboud University. Red background and white irregular shaped text boxes with a funny play on the topic. The poster title is a funny play on the conference theme “Beyond fixed Boundaries”
This poster has been resistant to #FallenPosterSyndrome. Shape and title are a funny play on the conference theme “Beyond fixed Boundaries”
Bart Zonneveld at Radboud University wins my poster award!

#FallenPosterSyndrome
Poster with top right and bottom left corner loose and curling up.
Same poster, only minutes later. One corner still attached to the board, rest of poster on the floor.
Final phase, another minute later. The whole poster lies on the floor, rolled up.
Once the first symptoms appear, disease progression can be rapid.
#NWOPhysics
Collage of four photos showing several posters that fell off the white poster boards.
Something is not right at the poster boards. One by one, the posters are falling down.
