Rehoboth eyes hosting local authorities games The Rehoboth Town Council will propose to host the next edition of the Namibia Local Authorities Sports and Recreational Association (Nalasra) Games, a sporting event, at the town. This was said by Rehoboth councillors during the fourth ordinary council meeting held recently. The sporting event is held on a rotational basis, with Katima Mulilo hosting this year. The games are designed to promote employee wellness, encourage networking, and provide a platform for local authority staff to exchange ideas. The Nalasra Games also aims to foster friendship, goodwill and cooperation through sport and recreation. The games have grown in stature and attract record numbers of participants. Rehoboth mayor Justin Coetzee says their interest in hosting the games comes after they attended this year’s event. “We want to submit our documents for the games to be held at Rehoboth next year. Our staff went and things went well. The event was an eye opener for us,” Coetzee says. Councillor Jacky Khariseb says they are eager to host the event. He says the event is a great investment opportunity. “The recently held games was a good wellness day for us. We had the opportunity to engage with others,” Khariseb adds. Khariseb, however, says the lack of accommodation at the town is still a challenge. He urges the community to start investing in accommodation. Resident and sport supporter Desmond Swartz says hosting the games at Rehoboth would be a positive development. The post Rehoboth eyes hosting local authorities games appeared first on The Namibian.

Fourty-four local authorities are participating in this year’s games, under the theme ‘Enhancing Wellness Through Physical Activities’. Katima Mulilo mayor John Ntemwa, during his welcoming remarks, said that the games are not only for competing, as they foster a renewed spirit of local development through sports. “The Nalasra Games are more than just a competition; they are a celebration of unity, resilience, teamwork and shared growth among local authorities. We want every participant to leave here with memories of joy, connection and inspiration,” he said. Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) chief administrator Freddy Mwiya has called for support to take sport to the next level in the country. He further added that focus should also shift to elite athletes. “Entities should support the government to ensure that sport in the country goes to greater heights.
