A humanoid alien with four arms and four broad appendages framing the head, located at the angle points of the jaw and the sides of the head. They have two more smaller appendages located to the left and right of the chin.

About the "sapient alien species" that lives on the same planet as the creature I posted earlier today.. it's the Nan-Te'gah. The most prominent feature they have in common are the head appendages.

I removed the "ear" jewellery as I figured it wouldn't make much sense. These appendages are sensory organs and are sensitive to pressure changes and movement. Jewellery would cause sensory overload :')

Since my art on wing anatomy didn't include the feet, here's a sketch of them! I imagine another set of spines at the back of the heel. When extended, it creates a kite that helps the legs stay up during flight and not drop down.

Digital art which explains the wing anatomy of an alien species called Nan-Te'gah. The left illustration shows the alien in full size. Their wings are single butterfly-like elements that are situated along their arms. When the wings are folded, they look like spines pointing backwards. The illustrations on the right depict the extended wing elements. They fold forward while creating a wing-like shape. The alien's base color is beige with orange accents along the wing arms and secondary arms. The wings, when open, have additional colors, looking like the color accents smear into the wing membrane, creating a slick, oil-like appearance. Text on page: When the wings are folded, they are positioned along the arms and point backwards. Finger spines tend to spread more widely depending on the position of the fingers, while arm spines are held closer together. Fingers point slightly outwards to make room for the spines. Each wing element consists of an upper and a lower spine. The lower spine is shorter and thinner. Wing hands have 7 digits. 1 thumb, 3 upper fingers and 3 thinner lower fingers. Wing anatomy!
The Nan-Te'gah are an alien species that can fly for short distances, depending on their fitness and experience. Most of them are great swimmers too. Athletic individuals can even switch between swimming and flying quite easily.

The first sketch shows both the creature and its rider while flying. The second sketch shows a close-up of the rider in front view while they spread their own wings and lift off the creature's back. The third sketch shows the creature's head and the rider next to it, touching its snout affectionately.

Sometimes I get asked about colors, so... I made a quick colored version of the Maardru. They come in many colors, but their belly and wings are always a shade of blue.

The home world of the Nan-Te'gah is (or actually was) one of the most colorful in my universe.

I decided to call them Maardru.
They were quite common on Qu'tar, while the planet was still striving. Their diet consists of plants that grow in shallow waters and small sea life. (cont.)

Text on page: Head appendages are made of cartilage and muscle. Elongated tympanic membranes run along each of the four larger appendages and serve as sensory organs. Upper appendages: Specialized for detecting airborne vibrations and pressure changes. Lower appendages: Specialized for detecting underwater vibrations and movements. The appendages are also used to convey emotions by moving them into different positions. Active movement affects the membranes. While most self-generated disturbances can be ignored, the sensitivity of the membranes is dampened by active movement. Thus, increased focus or fear makes them eerily still. Nictitating membrane (third eyelid) can be drawn across the eye for protection, particularly when underwater. Outer teeth are part of the exoskeleton that covers the face. Lips close behind the outer teeth. The actual teeth are located inside the mouth, with pointed incisors and flatter molars. Canines are not prominent and look like incisors.

Head details of my Nan-Te'gah species.
Their planet consists of large oceans and countless islands. Therefore, they are well adapted to life in air and water. Their ancestors were predators who lurked or flew over the water and dove for their prey.

The creature from yesterday and the Nan-Te'gah are from the same planet, called Qu'tar. You can see it in their eyes. They have double irises, usually a more prominent inner iris and a less prominent outer iris. It's a typical trademark of Qu'tar's inhabitants.

It's a Nan-Te'gah in some sort of pressure suit. Their planet's environment has become hostile, which made them leave the ground and live in cities of the sky instead.

Noteworthy is that at their forehead the bone-like structure forms a rhombus, the only straight lines in the alien's face. They also have six ear-like appendages on their head, three on each side.

That's the "finished" art of the process video I posted earlier. I left it sketchy and worked in some digital highlights.

The species is one of my own, called Nan-Te'gah.
