I came of musical age at a curious time when increasingly earnest rock musicians disowned their pop hits and indeed the band members who wrote them. Hole In My Shoe is still a lovely piece of psych mellotronica for all that. RIP Dave Mason. Safe journey to the otherworld the better world. x

Aw man. Dave Mason was not only a 70s AM Gold superstar, but also a centerpiece of one of my deep fried favorite cinematic disasters - the ridiculous, silly, over the top SKATETOWN USA. He performed the theme song as well as two performances in the film. You'll know it as Patrick Swayze's 1st film.
