On #NationalIndigenousLanguagesDay, we celebrate the linguistic heritage of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Established in 1993, it highlights the importance of over 70 distinct languages, many of which are endangered, as essential to cultural identity.

We can all celebrate and honour Indigenous languages by learning Indigenous names of a few local animals and plants. In my kids' books, I include examples, like these ones in "Bison: Community Builders and Grassland Caretakers."

Mohawk Language Course Trailer - Introductory Kanyen'kéha I (MKH101) Consider taking MKH101 with us! This course concentrates on developing students' speaking proficiency of Kanyen'kéha (Mohawk) at the novice level. Kanyen'kéha being a verb-based and polysynthetic language, this course will focus on conversation and verb construction in order to provide students with a strong foundation to progress with learning Kanyen'kéha.
