A stand of several Bald Cypress trees on gently sloping ground. The bark is rough and looks a bit shaggy, and is a reddish-brownish-grey. The leaves also look long and shaggy, and are a bright green, gorgeous against the red tones of the bark. The trees are 20 or 30 feet high, but from about 5 feet are shrouded in the bushy, shaggy leaves.
Here the view is next to the trees so that the pond water can be seen. The water reflects the bright white clouds and light blue sky. Some strands of Spanish moss hang from the Cypress branches. Next to the tree is a knobby stump, which is part of the tree. These "knees" grow upward from the roots on both land and in the water, rising above the earth and water surfaces.
This is a closer view of the knee in the previous photo. It has grown right next to the water's edge and is probably covered by water during a heavy rainy season or flooding from tropical storms and hurricanes.
