I'm entertaining the idea of creating a new game jam as per @distraction.engineer 's "challenge" of doing something to continue after Ludum Dare. The other jams I've participated have been lackluster, and they don't promote reciprocity like LD does. "Ludus Nova", perhaps? #ldjam #newld

Ludum Dare the websites live on as a beacon, a lighthouse, to guide you home. To find each other. To continue the legacy we built together.

Criticizing how I announced my departure—in 3 years—does not make a new Ludum Dare! Neither does me writing a list of corrections to our oral history, splitting hairs about 20+ year minutia.

Unfortunately it seem some old grievances have convinced a few folks that I have some nefarious motive. To be fair, I watch the news too, and there is a lot of truly diabolical shite that would make me doubt humanity.

Context: I've given 3 years notice that I will be stepping away from running scheduled Ludum Dare events.

My hope is that folks that are genuinely serious about continuing our legacy come together and build something new, something better.

Fun fact: The current incarnation of Ludum Dare has ~145,000 user accounts. Signups require a valid email address. Some amount of those are/were spammers, but that slowed when we started requiring invitation codes a couple years back. Some do still get by though. 🤷 #LDJam #NewLD

The Theme Slaughter is historically the only part of Ludum Dare that hasn't been realistic to automate.

*cough* You could actually solve this using "controversial technology" (AKA that thing you hate), but hahaha I get enough hate from people without using "that technology". 🤣 #LDJam #NewLD

Typical Theme Slaughter results give you a good dozen unique themes before you need to consider ideas that are similar. In rare cases your top 2 (or 3) are extremely similar.

If you use them as is without removing the similar, people complain. 😉 #LDJam #NewLD

first 25 tend to be fairly unique

after that, it's common to hit themes that are similar
