This originated as an idea that I've had in the back of my hair for a while after I finished my Snoopy and Woodstock anniversary piece inspired by their first appearance in comics together. I've always wondered how Charlie Brown would have looked in various comic book styles of the Golden Age with Walt Kelly's time on Our Gang Comics coming to mind.

The retirement of a coworker/good friend of mine was the perfect excuse to finally make this concept a reality. It gave me an opportunity to go outside of my depth a little bit with the stylizations and try to get it aesthetically as close as I could.

The background portion of the piece was a bit of a challenge for me since I'm not really as proficient at background perspectives as you can see.

Still, the challenge made it great for me to do thumbnail sketches exploring various avenues to explore. The trouble with doing background art is that I'm always overthinking how I would format it rather than using a simplified method to plan out. So I bit the bullet and gave it my best shot based on my co-worker's choice from the different ones drawn out.

A gift for a retired coworker of mine 2000 from earlier this year! This is sort of a spiritual sequel to my Peanuts Anniversary piece with Snoopy and Woodstock.

The Amphibimen have long ruled over the swampland that wraps around Clarion's equator, but the evil Rabazar has begun a war of conquest both northward and southward, with the ultimate goal of ruling the entire world. The two most powerful nations opposing him, the Vallant Kingdom and Darr, are on opposite sides of the planet – in the northern and southern hemispheres, respectively. The area Khalfani and Satin Jim have found themselves in is a key battleground in this war, as it represents one of the few breaks in the equatorial blockades.
