Buildings! We really wanted the various homes to take on a "found object" style. I pushed it really far at times, but sticking to plants and stones carved into homes made things feel more cohesive.

The fishing mini game is quintessential to every social or farming sim. Ours would have been simplified down to a stationary spot, similar to Wii Play's fishing minigame, and the focus would be on the animated fish and it's flavor text.

An RPG is, of course, items. I crafted up a ton of materials and concepts for currency. Even with a high fidelity appearance, these were relatively easy to make. But the more important was ensuring the style could be emulated by other artists, though we never quite reached that step.

As the project evolved, we covered a lot of explorations for how our maps would be lit, colored, and stylized. And while we covered a lot of options, we ultimately did not have a clear direction at the start.

Of course, what is a social sim without your own avatar? The core idea would be giving players an androgynous MC with some light customization options. They would even transform into an animal for the different games you could play!

Environments are not my strong suit. I always have and will love character design above all things. So I took the opportunity to create several designs of the NPCs. Early on, we knew we wanted them to be simple and geometric. I forgo'd some simplicity to ensure each had personality

We wanted the space in Village to look cozy, a reprieve from the exercise-based games you would play to earn new villagers and items. We really had a blank check on how far we could take the visuals. Production of game ready assets was not a concern for me at this point, however.
