Did you know?

Sea turtles ‘cry’ when they are out of the water, but it's not emotion: it's a way of eliminating the excess salt they ingest with seawater. They do this through salt glands near their eyes.

Did you know that?

Not all sea turtles have hard shells! The leatherback turtle has a flexible shell, not a hard shell like other species. This helps it to dive to great depths, even deeper than 1,000 metres.

Female sea turtles return to the same beach where they were born to lay their eggs.
This is known as natal philopatry. This behavior is also seen in other animals, such as salmon and some birds, like penguins.

Do you know why the loggerhead turtle has this name? It has a habit of floating sleepily on the surface of the water, which made it appear ‘goofy’ or distracted, especially to fishermen who caught it easily.

Did you know that tuna hunt in groups? They are fast and highly coordinated predators. They hunt in shoals, surrounding their prey (such as sardines or mackerel) to corner them.
