Newark Castle my old watercolour that I was inspired to do after reading Nigel Tranter's 'The Black Douglas'. Many of my reconstructions were inspired by Nigel's description of sites then matched up with the ruins. We use to debate till the cows come home about architectural details. #NigelTranter

On the Throne. Kings & Lords used their Thrones as toilets because of the risk of assassination attempts in toilet chutes. Nigel Tranter told me about spears & crossbow bolts from below.
