The EU should fight climate change – not “meaty” words. 🌍🥦

This week, EU lawmakers will resume discussions on whether to censor how to talk about plant-based food... we’d rather they stop spreading confusion.
There’s #NoConfusion.

🌿 In Brussels, negotiators are debating banning terms like ‘burger’ and ‘sausage’ for plant-based foods in the EU. But 600+ organisations, Sir Paul McCartney, and more than 300K citizens argue there's #noconfusion over veggie burgers.

I have never, not once, been confused when buying vegan products, and the crazy people telling lies as an excuse for backing big agricultural businesses attack on vegan products is cynical at best, massively corrupt politics in truth.

No ham in hamburgers, no dogs in hot dogs - and consumers get it. The EU should focus on promoting sustainable diets, not on policing words and making obvious obstacles to plant-based foods. CONCITO supports this call against the "veggie burger ban" 🍔🌱 #noconfusion
La decisión final podría llegar esta misma semana. Si se aprueba, prohibir “hamburguesa vegana” será ley en toda la UE tras un período de transición.

🚨EU to the rescue🚨
I was shocked to learn that my vegan Schinken, Schnitzel and Wurst is made of plants, yes PLANTS! I am so confused, I need the EU to intervene, so I stop buying wrong things.

There is really #NoConfusion here. Banning names like veggie burgers or veggie sausages has nothing to do with consumer protection. Do not take away our #VeggieBurgerFreedom!
On December 10, the EU will decide whether to allow only meat to use terms like "burger", "sausage" or "bacon" 🍔
Let the EU know there is no #NoConfusion ‼️

Seriously though, the EU is banning the use of words like “burger” and “sausage” for food made from plants. This will create huge expenses for no reason.
If you’ve never been confused by vegie burgers, stand up for #VeggieBurgerFreedom! If we're honest, there's #NoConfusion here!
I went to buy vegie burgers, but then I realised it was made of vegetables, but is also a burger… so confusing!

EU politicians will decide on Wednesday whether to go ahead with the ban on words like burger and sausage for plant-based foods.
That means we have one last chance to show how unpopular – and absurd – this policy is.
Please flood social media on this ridiculous

On 10 Dec, EU institutions will debate the proposed “burger ban” - restricting words like "burger" or "sausage" on plant-based foods. 80% of surveyed consumers aren’t confused, which begs the question: is this about clarity or control?

If you're in the EU, and have a moment, please consider signing this open letter protesting the ridiculous plan to ban names like 'burger' and 'sausage' for #vegetarian and #vegan alternatives because they would confuse people.

Thanks to @europarl.europa.eu for taking care of Europe's real problems, and best of luck to EU bureaucrats in ensuring consistent and 100% non confusing naming of food products in 27 languages. Just what we need! #noconfusion
Why has the EU Parliament banned the use of the words "burger" and "sausage" for foods made from plants? Seriously, can anyone tell me why?
Vegie burgers have been in the supermarkets, labelled as such, for decades. There was #NoConfusion then, or now.
The EU Parliament just voted to ban everyday words like "burger" & "sausage" for plant-based foods. This will only confuse consumers & slow the protein transition.
We urge Member States to reject this senseless move.

Der er helt sikkert planter i en planteburger, men der er...
Ingen hund i hotdogs,
Ingen skinke i hamburgers,
Ingen bøffel i buffalo wings og
Ingen logik i navneforbud mod plantebaserede varianter af kendte fødevarer, udover benspænd for nye plantebaserede fødevarer

📈 80% of EU consumers support using terms like veggie burger. So why is the EU trying to ban them?
This would only increase red tape and prevent the shift to sustainable, plant-rich diets.

Stop the ban on meaty names for plant based foods. Courts and parliaments have already rejected similar bans. Consumers are perfectly capable of telling the difference, and they don’t need EU politicians policing words on packaging that cause no confusion.
