To kick off these celebrations, the mayor of Strausberg will hold a commemorative event on January 27 at 4 p.m. to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp at the memorial grove for the victims of fascism in Strausberg. The Märkisch-Oderland district branch of the VVN-BdA is responsible for the content of this commemoration. This year's event is of particular significance not only because of the anniversary, but also because of the Bundestag elections taking place in February. We will use the event to draw attention to the dangers that a further strengthening of the neo-fascist AfD poses to the existence of democracy in Germany.

Silvio Meier was a squatter and active anti-fascist. On 21 Nov 1992, Silvio died at the hands of a neo-Nazi at Samariterstraße underground station. Silvio and his friends had previously approached a group of young fascists about their patches and Silvio had ripped an ‘I am proud to be German’ patch off one of their jackets.
We will therefore commemorate Silvio and all people who have lost their lives to right-wing violence on 21 November. At the same time, this year we want to take a look at the resistance that was put up against the right-wing in the 90s and 00s.
Older and younger anti-fascists: Let's come together, make anti-fascist history visible, exchange experiences and become active. It is more necessary than ever!
