This image captured from high on Mount Kobau, in southern British Columbia, is of a sacred place "Spotted Lake" , known as Lake Khiluk in the Nsyilcan language. This well known saline endorheic alkali lake contains mineral deposits that appear as spots on the lake. Minerals I the water become more concentrated as the lake water evaporates with summer heat and display colourful spots on the lake. This image shows the lake surrounded by golden grasslands, accented by coniferous trees that are set against a backdrop of rocky hills and a peek-a-boo view of the town of Osoyoos, BC far down below.

My third attempt at acrylic painting. My take on the reference image provided by instructor R. F. - the goal to bring light into a painting. Morning light streams through still trees that are partially obscured in the background. A branch with spring green leaves highlighted by the sun drapes into a field where a dilapidated fence of old wooden posts and wires can be seen. The sunlight plays on the golden grasses, and the disintegrating leaves still there from the past autumn. Black shadows border the edges of the field.

A winter scene that I shot in Penticton a couple years ago. This is a 24 by 36 inch canvas that I had printed for my home office The day was light overcast with only glints of sun reflected in the scene. Okanagan Lake appears like a grey slurry as a result of the freezing temperature. Some ice floats on the surface, brought in by the waves, and snow highlights the old wooden breakwater, and covers the nearby rocky shoreline. Mountains are visible in the distance, and a dark green coniferous tree and rusty orange willow shoots provide a touch of colour in the winter image.

My first attempt, a few years ago, at acrylic painting, completed while in a "paint for fun" class at the local community hall. The painting is colourful, mostly done in shades of pink and blue accented with brownish black. It features two silhouetted crows facing each other, while sitting on a branch with a rose colored moon in the background. A rose coloured heart is formed where their beaks and chests touch. My take on the sample picture that participants used as a reference. Fun evening that inspired me to paint again!

A wood fire burns brilliantly in an indoor fireplace insert, casting a warm glow on the fireplace metal, and the mantle where candles flicker, highlighting potted cacti, and a canvas image of a young deer gazing at me from near a rosebush covered in red rosehips.
