In summer of 1940 the #SovietUnion seized #Bessarabia & #NorthernBukovina from #Romania without a fight — an area of nearly four million people. Some of these tried to flee, including the up to 200 killed by border troops in the #FântânaAlbăMassacre on #ThisDayInHistory in 1941.
