A Northern walking stick rests on a leaf that is about the same length as the insect. It is facing downward on the leaf. It looks like a stick or long twig and could easily be missed, even though it's about three inches or so in length. Its front legs are stretched out in front of the insect. Its head just looks like a knob of a twig. The middle legs have alternating brown and tan markings and the back legs stretch out to the outer edges of the dark green leaves. Overall, it looks just like a stick fell out of a tree and happened to land on the leaves.
