Not in Their Name, Not Again (by Theo Falken inspired by Robert Bly) They speak of Greenland as if it were a porch to be swept, a slab of ice to hang a flag on. They draw circles around Canada in conference rooms— not for aid, but acquisition. I hear the voices of men with boots too clean and maps too red. The wind does not trust them. The trees whisper, Have you not learned? We once sent boys across the ocean with rifles and lunch tins, told them it was for freedom. When they returned, we turned our backs, spoke their names like apologies, spit when they walked by. Now again— the drumbeat sounds, not for defense, but for want. Our warriors are not walls to hold back the tide of arrogance. You will make them hated— from within and without. Their uniforms will become symbols, not of service, but of shame we placed upon them. And still, the generals smile in their tailored suits. The politicians rehearse ownership like a hymn. But the land remembers. And so do the dead.
