Would be great to have an example of cost per kW of an Ultra Super Critical coal plant built outside of China to allow a calculation of LCOE on today's black coal price.

The only way NEW coal means 'cheap' energy would be if taxpayers pay, insure and fuel one.

When Labor claims, as it does daily, that Peter Dutton’s nuclear reactors will cost $600 billion, it is being deliberately selective – on two fronts. The Coalition’s modelling put the total system cost of building and operating seven reactors until 2051 at $331 billion. If a more realistic forecast of electricity use by 2050 were adopted, the higher-end estimate is $446 billion.

Even their Cheerleader Coorey says $446 billion using the COALition estimate.

The Clean Energy Council based their $600 billion on Hinkley Point C's latest blowouts.

How climate-friendly is nuclear compared to other energies? If the entire life cycle of a nuclear plant is included in the calculation, nuclear energy certainly comes out ahead of fossil fuels like coal or natural gas. But the picture is drastically different when compared with renewable energy. According to new but still unpublished data from the state-run German Environment Agency (UBA) as well as the WISE figures, nuclear power releases 3.5 times more CO2 per kilowatt-hour than photovoltaic solar panel systems. Compared with onshore wind power, that figure jumps to 13 times more CO2. When up against electricity from hydropower installations, nuclear generates 29 times more carbon.

The building of nukes and mining, refining and waste management for nuclear fuel is far from zero emissions.
