Pooja - challenges for open research - sharing data on sensitive topics - could be traumatic for someone else to read. Need to ensure what you have agreed that can be shared. Concern about others using that data - might not mean sharing all the data #ORW2025

Pooja - co-production has been key to the research, different stakeholders than can input into the process - need a culture where everyone is respected and valued #ORW2025

Pooja - want to show credibility for the charities and to then gain further funding to continue the work they are doing #ORW2025

Pooja - identifyihg what outputs are useful. Academics need published papers but a report my be more useful to people wanted to access that information in an easier to manage format #ORW2025

Pooja - research and evaluation is important to ensure being ethical, ensuring permission for potential uses of data collected. Plan, check, change as appropriate #ORW2025

Pooja - important to react to the data in a timely manner, so they can see real-time improvements and also feeding that back #ORW2025

Pooja - need to be able to show the implications of your research - service evluation is needed, ensuring data is being collected - linking that data can be useful but managing the privacy is also part of that. Need to learn from the feedback given and the data #ORW2025

Pooja - has come in at different stages with the different groups #ORW2025

Andi - Stargardt's has created a data registry and are not making it open - worry about people losing ownership of their data - companies and researchers wanting to use their data have to contact first to ensure patient voices are heard and understanding about how the data will be used #ORW2025

Andi - who's in charge? Covid shielding voices - patients got the funding, sought out the research expertise - flip on the partnership narrative #ORW2025

Andi - systematic reviews - are they helpful or not? they largely say that the data out there is rubbish which isn't that helpful for those wanting to try to manage their condition. Worry about how they are being used and when used as part of research, is the subsequent research fed back in #ORW2025

Andi - size matters? the blanket statements about small scale studies and sample sizes being suspect is concerning for the area of rare disease - small samples are actually essential - make use of statistians who can help so much with small datasets #ORW2025

Andi - commercialisation of research - when a clinical trial goes well patients expect the research to continue, they do engage in trials to make you money - need to think about the people you researched when you hand that research over to a commercial company #ORW2025

Andi - rely on open access publications - portals help but aren't easy to navigate by the general public - you need to know who wrote the research, and how to get access to it. Then when you find the papers they can be hard to read - try putting a scientific paper through a screen reader #ORW2025

Andi - at diagnosis, where do you go for information? When are told there is no treatment or cure, you want to know what research is going on about the disease and potential cure #ORW2025
