There is not a much more powerful visual statement to me than a lone protester with the conviction to stand up for what is right despite being all alone. It moves me to tears every time I see it. Over the past few months watching more and more small, red, rural towns have a handful of folks decide to be brave and push past their fears and stand up on their local street corner.. well it's as American as apple pie in my book. Some of you have been doing it for years, some of you may have just joined. ALL are welcome in the 50501 tent. Back in February this new 50501 idea called for a Capitol protest in unison with EVERY STATE at EVERY Capitol on the same day. A few of us jumped in and started yelling for folks to come for Kansas. Literally we bought a megaphone. We were not longtime activists or event planners. We had no idea what to do but were just passionate that KANSAS not be left out. Well by April 5th we were blown away when over 3,000 Kansans answered the call to the Capitol! Standing in a SEA of fellow Kansans from ALL across the state on April 5th in front of OUR massive State house, ALL of us with a united desire to do what is RIGHT, well I must say it was a new feeling for me. It was energizing, it was hopeful. You could FEEL the passion emanating. Unity with so MANY different causes. I've never seen or felt that before here in Kansas. It felt like WE could DO this,WE could bring change. WE the people had the power. So we understand that not everyone has the ability or privilege to travel to the Capitol on JUNE 14TH for our next NATIONWIDE UNITED DAY of protest, and no one is going to shame you for that & you can still support by spreading the word and doing so many things, I absolutely from the bottom of my heart ENCOURAGE you to attend at the Capitol if you can. Not only to send a POWERFUL message to our Kansas representatives and to the media - but to FEEL what I felt on April 5th. This movement is for you. It's for ALL of US.
